Did you ever find yourself lost in math as a child? Wondering why you are learning the math you are being taught and when if ever will you use it again? I think all of us have felt lost at one point or another and it is because of Common Core Standards that hopefully the confusion will stop. Common Core Standards has set the bar for what needs to be taught in schools.
Common Core standards are a set of standards developed to clearly state what students are expected to learn and know. If teachers know what students are supposed to learn then they can better adjust their lessons to help students learn to the best of their ability. They then can also compare the students work to the standard and see where they need extra help. Not only can teachers benefit from Common Core standards, but so can parents. Parents would be able to see where their child needs extra help and hopefully be able to give them assistance at home. Common Core Standards are also written to help students be successful later on into their college years and in the careers they pursue.
The set of Common Core Standards for mathematics are specifically designed to lay out the math curriculum for every grade. If you go to the following site at the bottom of the page, you can see each grades set of specific standards. Every grade will have a statement that states the main concepts that students need to know and then from there each concept is broken down into clusters. Kindergartens two Common Core Standards for example are: 1) to be able to represent whole numbers with sets of objects and 2) be able to describe shapes and space.
